Wind farms together with the region

We develop, build and operate wind farms in Germany. In close partnership with municipalities and landowners, we create a sustainable energy supply and long-term prospects for regions and the people who live there.

What we do

Five areas, one standard

  1. 01

    Wind energy

Onshore wind farms in Rheinland-Pfalz, Saarland and Thüringen. From the evaluation through expert reports and the permit to construction and operation, we carry out every step ourselves.

  2. 02

    Grid infrastructure

Four substations of our own feed the electricity from our wind farms into the grid. Battery storage is being added: it takes up electricity when more is generated than is needed and releases it when the grid needs it. The first system is planned at the Breitenbich substation.

  3. 03

    Solar energy

Site evaluation, feasibility studies and permit application planning for ground-mounted solar farms, including the grid connection. Reference: the 8.7 MW plant in Écija, Spain.

A family company in its second generation

Since 1995 we have been developing, building and operating wind farms, now in the second generation. What we build, we keep in our own portfolio. That is why we plan every wind farm for decades.

    Rooted in the region

Municipalities benefit through participation models as well as lease and tax revenues. This fair approach to project delivery carries a seal from the Thüringer Energie- und GreenTech-Agentur.

    What the region gains

Our turbine technology

Technology that shows consideration

A wind farm should generate electricity while disturbing its neighbours as little as possible. We pay attention to that with every turbine, from the paint to the control system.

Consideration for the neighbours

  • Quieter at night

Where the permit provides for it, our wind turbines run in a noise-reduced operating mode at night. This reliably keeps the noise at the surrounding homes within the applicable guideline values.

In addition, the rotor blades of modern turbines have special noise-reducing trailing edges. These so-called serrations reduce air turbulence and with it the noise. Newer turbine generations reduce noise emissions further through optimised rotors and lower rotational speeds, while producing the same amount of electricity.

  • Shutdown for shadow flicker

When the sun is low, the turning rotor blades can cast moving shadows. Where this shadow can fall on homes, an automatic shutdown system records the actual shadow flicker and stops the turbine in time.

  • Lights only when needed

So that aircraft can reliably make out wind turbines at night, the turbines carry night-time obstruction lighting. Our turbines are operated with demand-controlled night marking: the red warning light only switches on when an aircraft is actually approaching. Modern systems also clearly reduce false alarms and so help to keep light at night to a minimum.

  • Matt finish

Rotor blades and tower have a matt, light grey finish. It reflects hardly any sunlight, so the turning blades do not flash.

Consideration for nature

  • Protecting birds

Bird protection begins with the choice of site: breeding sites, resting areas and flight routes are surveyed and taken into account before planning. Depending on the site, further measures are added, for example shutdowns during mowing or harvesting on neighbouring fields, when birds of prey hunt for food there more often.

  • A pause for bats

Bats mainly hunt on warm nights with little wind. That is exactly when our turbines stand still at the sites concerned. The shutdown times are set by the permitting authority, depending on temperature, wind speed, time of day and season.

Proven technology and safety

  • No gearbox

Our turbines are made by Enercon and work without a gearbox: the rotor drives the annular generator directly. That means fewer moving parts, less wear, fewer lubricants and less mechanical noise.

  • Ice detection

In certain weather conditions in winter, ice can form on the rotor blades. Our turbines detect ice build-up automatically, either with sensors on the rotor blade or from deviations in how the turbine is running. The turbine then shuts down by itself and only starts up again once the blades are free of ice.

  • Monitoring around the clock

Every turbine is monitored continuously by a remote monitoring system, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Irregularities are spotted early and often fixed before they lead to a breakdown.
